My Background

I have been involved in sport and exercise since a very young age, primarily swimming (competitively), and enjoying running, fitness training, racket sports and outdoor activities.

I graduated from Teesside University with an MSc in Sport and Exercise having previously completed a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science (including Exercise Referral Certificate), and I am a qualified lecturer (PGCE – Post-16).  In addition to my academic qualifications I have a range of fitness instruction and sports massage therapy qualifications to Level 4.

I have been a sports massage therapist/fitness and personal trainer for a number of years and I am also an experienced lecturer in sport, exercise and fitness having taught for many years for both private training providers and Further Education Colleges.  I specialise in Fitness Testing and Training, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sports Massage Therapy with extensive experience in training/teaching/assessing fitness instructor courses and qualifications.

I am qualified and experienced in outdoor activities including Mountain Leadership and Mountain Bike Leadership, as well as enjoying rock-climbing and skiing, with experience in outdoor group leadership and teaching navigation and expedition skills.

Working in education I have many years experience as a Sport and Exercise Lecturer, Curriculum Leader in Sport and Exercise, Quality Manager and Deputy Head of Curriculum working with the Senior College Management Team.  Additionally, I have worked for a number of years as External Quality/Standards Verifier for Edexcel (BTEC), GCSE PE Examiner and currently working for NCFE as Moderator/Examiner for Health and Fitness qualifications.
